Rescued – Rango The Brahminy Kite

พบกับเหยี่ยวเเดง(brahminy kite) ’ เเรงโก้ ‘ สมาชิคใหม่ของมูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า เเรงโก้ปีกหักทั้ง 2 ข้างจากอุบัติเหตุตั้งเเต่ยังเล็ก เเต่ยังโชคดีที่มีพลเมืองดีช่วยเอาไว้เเละเลี้ยงตั้งเเต่นั้นมา ขณะนี้อายุ 2 ปีเเล้ว

เจ้าของของเเรงโก้รักมันมากเเละมีความหวังดีอยากให้มันไปอยู่บ้านหลังใหม่ที่พร้อมจะดูเเล จึงได้ติดต่อมายังมูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าเพื่อขอความช่วยเหลือ ตอนนี้เเรงโก้ได้กำลังอยู่ในช่วงกักกันโรคเเละตรวจเช็คสุขภาพเพื่อให้เเน่ใจว่ามันมีสุขภาพที่ดี ก่อนที่เราจะรวมเเรงโก้ไว้กับเหยี่ยวเเดงตัวอื่นที่เราได้ช่วยเอาไว้ก่อนหน้านี้ บางท่านอาจจะคิดว่าทำไมเรายังต่อชีวิตให้กับนกพิการอย่างเเรงโก้ไว้ ทางเราคิดว่าเราสามารถให้ชีวิตที่มีความสุขกับเเรงโก้ได้ถึงเเม้เขาจะใช้ปีกไม่ได้เต็ม 100% เช่นเดียวกับเหยี่ยวเเดงตัวอื่นที่เราจะได้ช่วยชีวิตเอาไว้ก่อนหน้านี้

เหยี่ยวเเดงเป็นนกขนาดกลางที่พบได้ทั่วไปในทวีปเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ กินสัตว์เลื้อยคลานขนาดเล็กเเละปลาเป็นอาหาร ชอบอยู่ตามที่ราบเเละชายฝั่งทะเล มาติดตามกันต่อนะครับว่า เเรงโก้ จะเป็นยังไงต่อไป

Meet WFFT’s newest resident ‘Rango’. Rango is a Brahminy kite (Haliastur indus) that arrived at WFFT a few days ago with deformed wings. His wings were broken in an accident when he was a chick, but luckily he was found and raised by some kind people.

At 2 years old Rango’s owners felt he needed a more suitable home and so they decided to bring him to us. He is now in quarantine adjusting to his new surroundings. We will ensure he is in good health before introducing him to other Brahminy kites housed at WFFT. Some may argue why keep a flightless bird alive, unless the animals welfare is severely compromised we will give him a chance at a happy life. We have another kite with only one wing that arrived earlier in the year; this kite now lives happily in a large aviary with his own species.

Brahminy kites are commonly found in South and Southeast Asia in plains and coastal areas. They are medium-sized birds of prey and they mostly eat fish and small insects.
