Meet Binturong, Yin

As binturongs are shy and mostly active during the night, we just love these images of Yin gobbling down his evening dinner. ภาษาไทยด้านล่าง 

Binturongs, also known as bearcats, are listed as a vulnerable species. Habitat destruction and illegal poaching for medicine, fur and the pet trade are some of their major threats. They are also hunted for food. Binturongs, like all wildlife, need protecting!

Did you know that binturongs are the only mammal in Asia to have a tail that they can use to hold objects? It’s like a 5th limb. They also have scent glands that smell like popcorn! They are such unique animals. 

Here at WFFT, we house two binturongs, Yin and Yang, siblings who were rescued from the illegal wildlife trade as youngsters. Our hope is to release them back into the wild in the future. บินตุรงสัตว์ตระกูลชะมดที่ค่อนข้างขี้อาย หลับไหลในเวลากลางวันและออกหากินในเวลากลางคืน ในรูปคือหยินที่กำลังเยื้องย่างลงมาหาอาหารมื้อค่ำที่แสนโปรดปราน

บินตุรงหรือที่รู้จักในอีกชื่อว่าหมีขอ เป็นสิ่งมีชีวิตที่ถูกจัดให้อยู่ในกลุ่มที่เสี่ยงต่อการสูญพันธุ์ในธรรมชาติ เนื่องจากการคุกคามจากการตัดไม้ทำลายแหล่งที่อยู่อาศัย การล่าเพื่อทำยา ล่าเอาขน การล่าขายในตลาดสัตว์เลี้ยง หรือแม้กระทั่งล่าเพื่อกินเนื้อ บินตุรงก็เหมือนดั่งสัตว์ป่าอื่น ๆ พวกเขาต้องการการปกป้องดูแล ช่วยเราแชร์บทความนี้เพื่อช่วยกันปกป้องบินตุรงกันนะคะ
