Rescue Tiger Rambo Receives Dental Care to Fix Decay

Rambo has been incredibly brave this week as he faced urgent medical treatment.

This magnificent male Bengal tiger is typically pleasantly placid. However, recently, our tiger care team noticed a significant change in his mood. He had been pacing angrily and snarling furiously. It was during one of these anger outbursts that we spotted what might be the problem: his teeth.

Before being rescued by WFFT, Rambo spent nearly two decades suffering horrendously in unnatural living conditions as part of the tourism industry. Tigers trapped in this industry often suffer from canine health deterioration due to poor nutrition and from biting the metal bars of their cages out of boredom.

When we knew Rambo was in pain, we brought in a specialist team to provide first-class dental care for him. Our vet team collaborated with Dr.Teerapol Chinkangsadarn and team from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University to help fix the damage. First, they darted Rambo from his side enclosure, inducing a very deep sleep. Then, it took six people to heave him into our rescue ambulance, which safely transported him to our on-site wildlife hospital. Here, the team performed an overall health check, examining his eyes, administering vaccinations and dewormer, collecting blood samples, and conducting a thorough inspection of his teeth.”

X-rays revealed that his canines were deeply decayed and rotting. Fortunately, our vet team were able to save two of the canines by performing root canals, helping to relieve Rambo of the pain and discomfort that had been making him so distressed. Going forward, his keepers are continuing to monitor him and he will also receive a special diet to make sure he gets all the nutrition he needs!

การตรวจสุขภาพของแรมโบ้สัปดาห์นี้ผ่านไปได้ด้วยดี

ปกติเสือโคร่งเพศผู้แลน่าเกรงขามตัวนี้ จะเป็นเสือที่สงบเยือกเย็น เรียบร้อย แต่หลังๆมานี้ทีมดูแลเสือสังเกตเห็นอาการผิดปกติบางอย่างจากแรมโบ้ จากที่เคยนิ่งสงบกลับมีอารมณ์ฉุนเฉียวขึ้น แยกเขี้ยวขู่ทุกคนที่ผ่านทาง จนในที่สุดไมค์ หนึ่งในผู้ดูแลก็ได้เจอต้นตอของความผิดปกติทั้งหมดอยู่ที่ฟันแรมโบ้นั่นเอง

ก่อนที่แรมโบ้จะมาอยู่ในมูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า WFFT แรมโบ้ต้องถูกกักขังอยู่ในสภาพแวดล้อมที่ย่ำแย่เต็มไปด้วยนักท่องเที่ยวอย่างนั้นกว่า 20 ปี เสือส่วนใหญ่ที่อยู่ในธุรกิจท่องเที่ยวมักพบเจอกับปัญหาฟันเสีย จากการบริโภคอาหารที่ไม่ดี และการกัดแทะแท่งเหล็กหรือกรงเพราะความเบื่อหน่าย

เมื่อวานนี้ ทีมสัตวแพทย์ของเราได้เข้าไปเพื่อทำการรักษา โดยวางยาสลบแรมโบ้ก่อนที่จะใช้คนกว่าหกคนในการหามแรมโบ้ขึ้นรถไปที่โรงพยาบาลเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า จากนั้นก็ทำการตรวจเช็คสุขภาพร่างกาย ดวงตา ฉีดวัคซีน กำจัดพยาธิ เช็คผลเลือด และอีกมากมาย โดยเฉพาะการตรวจฟัน

จากการเอ็กซ์เรย์ พบว่าฟันเขี้ยวของแรมโบ้ผุเสียหาย โชคดีที่ทีมแพทย์สามารถรักษารากฟันไว้ได้สองซี่ ช่วยบรรเทาอาการเจ็บปวดให้แรมโบ้ได้มาก หลังจากนั้นทีมดูแลเสือ จะคอยสอดส่องดูอาการของแรมโบ้พร้อมให้อาหารที่เหมาะสมต่อไป
