WFFT’s Rescue Work Must Continue

วันนี้เราจะมาทำความรู้จักกับน้อง “แว่นดี” แว่นดีคือค่างแว่น ซึ่งทางบัญชีแดง IUCN หรือสหภาพนานาชาติเพื่อการอนุรักษ์ธรรมชาติและทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ ประกาศให้เป็นชนิดพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าที่มีความเสี่ยงสูงต่อการสูญพันธุ์จากพื้นที่ธรรมชาติในอนาคตอันใกล้ ค่างแว่นตัวนี้ถูกพบมีบาดแผลอยู่บริเวณป่าใกล้ ๆ แหล่งชุมชน แว่นดีมีอาการบาดเจ็บสาหัสช่วงหลังล่าง และพบว่ากระดูกสันหลังส่วนล่างและขาหลังสูญเสียการใช้งาน จากการเอ็กซเรย์ไม่พบว่ามีกระดูกหักหรือมีบาดแผลอื่น ๆ สรุปก็คือแว่นดีเป็นอัมพาตตั้งแต่ช่วงเอวลงไป เราสันนิษฐานว่าวันดีอาจจะถูกสุนัขกัดหรือจากการถูกรถชน

เมื่อวานนี้ทีมสัตว์แพทย์เดินทางกว่า 4 ชั่วโมงลงใต้เพื่อไปช่วยเหลือแว่นดี ทางมูลนิธิฯ ขอขอบคุณโรงพยาบาลสัตว์บ้านนายหัวและคุณหมอที่ได้ช่วยรักษาชีวิตเบื้องต้นให้กับแว่นดี ระหว่างทางกลับมายังมูลนิธิฯ ทีมสัตว์แพทย์ได้ทำความสะอาดบาดแผล ให้ยาแก้ปวดและน้ำเกลือ เมื่อมาถึงโรงพยาบาลสัตว์ของเรา คุณหมอจึงเริ่มรักษาด้วยเครื่องเลเซอร์บำบัดที่ทางมูลนิธิฯ เช่ามา (เทคโนโลยีการรักษาด้วยแสงเลเซอร์จะช่วยในเรื่องของการสมานแผลต่าง ๆ เช่น แผลผ่าตัด แผลโดนกัด แผลสด ลดอาการอักเสบของบาดแผล ลดปวด และยังสามารถใช้ในการทำกายภาพบำบัดได้) ซึ่งอุปกรณ์เลเซอร์ที่ช่วยในการรักษาสัตว์นี้จะอยู่กับเราอีกแค่ไม่กี่สัปดาห์ เนื่องจากเราต้องส่งคืนให้กับบริษัทที่เราเช่ามาเนื่องจากไม่มีทุนในการเช่าต่อแล้ว

เราไม่อาจทราบได้เลยว่าแว่นดีจะตอบสนองต่อการรักษามากน้อยเพียงใด แต่ในตอนนี้เราพยายามรักษาและดูแลแว่นดีอย่างสุดความสามารถ มูลนิธิฯ จะช่วยเหลือสัตว์ที่ต้องการความช่วยเหลือเช่นนี้ต่อไปจนกว่าเราจะไม่สามารถทำได้อีกแล้ว หากปราศจากทุกท่านที่ช่วยบริจาค มูลนิธิฯ คงไม่สามารถอยู่ได้มาจนถึงทุกวันนี้ ทุกท่านได้ช่วยเหลือเราในช่วงโควิดนี้มาตลอดทางเราขอขอบคุณมาก และอีกครั้งที่ทางมูลนิธิฯต้องการความช่วยเหลือจากท่าน ท่านสามารถร่วมสนับสนุนงานของเราผ่านการบริจาคได้ที่ https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/save-thailand-s-wildlife-sanctuary

Meet Wendee, an endangered primate that arrived at WFFT yesterday evening. Wendee is a dusky langur, a species recently reclassified by the IUCN Redlist as an endangered species. She was found injured in a forested area close to a human settlement. She has sustained serious injuries on her lower back. She has lost the use in her hind limbs and most of the feeling in her lower spine. An X-ray was performed, no broken bones or other serious injuries were visible. Wendee is paralysed from the waist down. We suspect she has been bitten by feral dogs or hit by a vehicle of sorts.

We drove 4 ½ hours south to rescue Wendee. A domestic animal veterinarian close to where she was found gave her an initial examination and treatment. Thank you to Baan Nai Hua Vet Hospital for helping rescue her. Upon arrival to the WFFT Wildlife Hospital her wounds were cleaned, she was given pain relief and fluids, the WFFT Vet Team then set to work utilising a veterinary lazar we are currently renting. We only have this equipment for a few more weeks for treatment of other injured animals. Unfortunately we have to hand this machine back to the rental company due to lack of funds.

We do not know yet if Wendee we recover from this very challenging ordeal but will give her the best chance of recovery.
