Rescuing Mr. Big Foot: A New Beginning for an Abandoned Coconut Monkey

We are thrilled to announce the fresh start for Mr. Big Foot, an abandoned coconut monkey from Koh Samui. A few days ago, we removed the horrible chain from around the neck of this handsome Northern Pig-tailed macaque, symbolising the end of his days of servitude and cruelty.

Mr. Big Foot’s teeth were cruelly shaved down, revealing the harsh exploitation he endured. When our dedicated wildlife rescue partner, Samui snake and wildlife rescue, rescued him, Mr. Big Foot was very thin, likely on the brink of starvation. As a macaque born and raised in captivity, he lacks the skills or know-how to survive in the wild. Furthermore, macaques are not native to the island of Koh Samui, and releasing individuals can have a negative impact on both the ecosystem and potentially pose a threat to communities there.

Monkeys trained for coconut harvesting face heartbreaking lives, spending most of their days on short chains when not forced to climb trees using the threat of sticks and pain.

Our goal now is to help him recover from his past and give Mr. Big Foot a life as close to natural as possible.
