Rescued – White-Thighed Surili

เมื่อวันที่ 10 พฤษภาคมได้มีครอบครัวนำลูกค่าง( ต้นขานวล ) ตัวเมียชื่อ ‘ จำปี ‘ ส่งมอบให้ WFFT ดูเเลต่อ

‘ จำปี ‘ มาจากหัวหิน อายุประมาณ 5 เดือน ถูกซื้อมาเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงจาก Facebook ตั้งเเต่เกิดจึงติดเจ้าของมากๆ เเละไม่ยอมให้ใครอุ้มเลยนอกจากเจ้าของ สาเหตุที่นำมาส่งมอบให้ทาง WFFT เพราะจำปีป่วยจากนมเเพะที่เขาให้ จึงอยากให้ทางทีมสัตว์เเพทย์ของเราดูเเลต่อ

ค่างมีลักษณะที่แตกต่างออกไปจากลิงในวงศ์อื่น ๆ โดยทั่วไปมีรูปร่างที่เพรียวบาง หางยาว เเละขนยาวกว่า นอกจากนั้นเเล้วยังมีระบบย่อยไม่เหมือนกัน ดังนั้นสามารถย่อยอาหารได้ดีเพียงเเค่พืชเท่านั้น

สัตว์ป่าอย่าง ‘ จำปี ‘ มีหน้าตาน่ารักคนจึงชอบเข้าใจผิดนำมาเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงโดยไม่ได้คำนึงถึงโรคติดต่อ การให้อาหาร เเละ สุขภาพสัตว์ป่า เป็นต้น จากการดูเเลอย่างใกล้ชิดกับสัตว์เเพทย์เราหวังว่าในไม่ช้า ‘ จำปี ‘ จะมีอาการที่ดีขึ้น และสามารถอยู่ร่วมกับค่างตัวอื่นๆที่ทางมูลนิธิฯ ได้ช่วยเหลือมาก่อนหน้านี้ได้

A few days ago a family from Hua Hin arrived at the WFFT Wildlife Rescue Centre with ‘Jum Pee‘ a 5-month old female White-thighed surili (Presbytis siamensis). They had purchased her from Facebook 4-months ago and had kept her as a family pet since. Sadly little Jum Pee became very attached to one person and would not allow anyone else take care of her, she became sick from the goats milk she was being fed. The owners then realised that keeping her was a bad idea and looked for a new, more suitable long-term home.

Surili’s are also known as leaf-monkeys. They are a distinct group of primate with a slender figure, a long tail and specialised diet, they primarily feed on leaves.

Jum Pee is one of many cases where humans keep wildlife as pets, often not knowing what they are doing when purchasing a wild animal. Without proper research and care these animals commonly become sick. With round-the-clock care by the WFFT Vet Team, we hope that Jum Pee will recover and join a group of other rescued leaf-monkeys.
