Rescued – ‘ Tufa ’ Pet Slow Loris

Meet ‘Tufa‘ a male Bengal slow loris, a new resident at the Wildlife Friends Foundation. At one year old, Tufa was abandoned by his previous owner, but luckily good citizens had rescued and taken care of him ever since.

Since being rescued, they have tried their best to take care of Tufa, they had researched and prepared all the necessities. But after a while, Tufa started to show odd behaviours, so they decided to contact WFFT for help.

The Veterinary Team did an initial examination and x-ray, they found Tufa has a severe case of metabolic bone disease (MBD) which is commonly found in most vertebrates. MBD is caused by improper nutrition, calcium deficiency, and vitamin D deficiency. In this case, Tufa’s limbs are deformed and in a fragile state which makes it very difficult for him to crawl or climb in a tree the way a slow loris is supposed to.

Currently, Tufa is under close care by the Vet Team. He is receiving a new diet plan and daily physiotherapy sessions with Chin, the slow loris that also has metabolic bone disease (Read
Chin’s story at https://bit.ly/36V5BiH). Tufa and Chin have started to show interest in each other, and we hope in the future they can become friends. We will keep you posted about their friendship and condition.

Tufa is one of many cases where humans keep wildlife as pets. Without proper research and care, these animals commonly become sick or in some case leading to a lifetime of suffering or death. พบกับ “ทูฟา” นางอายเพศผู้สมาชิกใหม่ของมูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า เมื่ออายุได้ประมาณหนึ่งปี ‘ทูฟา’ กำลังจะถูกทิ้งโดยเจ้าของเก่าแต่โชคดีที่มีพลเมืองดีมาพบเข้าและตัดสินใจที่จะดูแลตั้งแต่นั้นมา

ตั้งแต่รับทูฟามาดูแล พวกเขาพยายามอย่างดีที่สุด ไม่ว่าจะศึกษาวิธีการเลี้ยงที่ถูกต้อง อาหาร ความอบอุ่นและความรัก แต่หลังจากที่ดูแลมาได้ประมาณหนึ่งปี ทูฟา เริ่มแสดงพฤติกรรมผิดปกติหลายๆ อย่าง พวกเขาจึงตัดสินใจติดต่อทางมูลนิธิฯ เพื่อขอคำแนะนำและดูอาการของทูฟา

ทีมสัตวเเพทย์ได้ตรวจร่างกายพร้อมกับ X-ray จึงพบว่า ทูฟาเป็นโรคกระดูกเมตาบอลิกหรือโรคกระดูกพรุนซึ่งสามารถพบได้บ่อยในสัตว์เลื้อยคลานหรือสัตว์ที่มีกระดูกสันหลังทุกชนิด ส่วนใหญ่เกิดจากสัตว์ที่ไม่ได้รับสารอาหาร วิตามิน หรือเเสงเเดดที่เหมาะสม อย่างในเคสนี้ทำให้กระดูกของทูฟาโค้งผิดรูป บางลง เเละอยู่ในสภาพอ่อนเเอ สามารถคลานหรือปีนต้นไม้ได้อย่างลำบาก

ขณะนี้ทีมสัตวแพทย์กำลังอยู่ในช่วงดูเเล ทูฟา อย่างใกล้ชิด โดยการปรับอาหารเเละทำกายภาพบำบัดพร้อมกับชิน นางอายอีกตัวที่เป็นโรคกระดูกเมตาบอลิกเหมือนกันทุกวัน (คุณสามารถอ่านเรื่องเต็มของชินได้ที่ https://bit.ly/36V5BiH ) ดูเหมือนว่าพวกเขาดูสนใจกันเป็นอย่างดีเราหวังว่าในอนาคตพวกเขาอาจจะเป็นเพื่อนกันได้ มาให้กำลังใจทูฟาเเละชินกันต่อไปนะครับ

สัตว์ป่าอย่าง ‘ทูฟา ‘มีหน้าตาน่ารักคนจึงชอบเข้าใจผิดซื้อมาเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงโดยไม่ศึกษาอย่างถี่ถ้วน ทำให้สุขภาพของสัตว์เหล่านี้ทรุดหนักหรือบางเคสอาจจะเสียชีวิตได้ หากคุณพบเห็นหรือคิดจะช่วยเหลือสัตว์ป่าโดยรับมาเลี้ยง ขอให้แจ้งกับทางมูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าหรือหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง เพื่อให้เจ้าหน้าที่ได้ทำการตรวจสอบและช่วยเหลือสัตว์ป่าต่อไป
