Rescued : Susan the Long-tailed Macaque

A few days ago, a man showed up at People and Animals Thailand clinic with a severely injured female long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) after she got into a road accident while crossing the street. Therefore, PAT team had informed the Wildlife Rescue Centre team to stand by and take over the emergency patient. (We have named her “Susan”).

Susan arrived at WFFT, the Vet Team took her straight to an X-ray. It was found that she has broken left collarbone and a broken right leg. She also has wounds on her head and tail.

The long-tailed macaque is the most common species of primate in Thailand. They are ubiquitous, whether in the forests, parks, tourist sites, or temples. It reflects how humans are invading and disturbing the natural habitats of long-tailed macaques.These monkeys are left with no choice but to co-exist with humans, which lead them to steal food and raid properties eventually human-wildlife conflicts occur. Injuries can occur from crossing busy roads or climbing on exposed power lines. This problem is considered a dispute between people and monkeys that must be fixed as soon as possible.

The Vet Team fitted a cast on her leg, cleaned her wounds, and let her take a rest in the hospital. You can tell by her face she must be in real pain but don’t worry she is now in good hands. She will receive all the necessities that she needs until she can get back on her feet again. We are hooping she can recover from this terrible ordeal. Get well soon, Susan!

ไม่กี่วันก่อน มีพลเมืองดีเดินทางมาที่คลินิก People and Animals Thailand พร้อมกับลิงเเสม (Long-tailed Macaque) ได้รับบาดเจ็บสาหัสเเละต้องการความช่วยเหลืออย่างเร่งด่วน เนื่องจากถูกรถชนขณะวิ่งข้ามถนน เมื่อทราบดังนั้นทีมงาน PAT จึงได้ติดต่อประสานงานมาที่มูลนิธิฯ เพื่อรับช่วงต่อ (เราได้ตั้งชื่อให้เธอว่า “ซูซาน”)

เมื่อมาถึงที่โรงพยาบาลทีมสัตวเเพทย์ได้ตรวจร่างกายเเละนำไป X-ray พบว่า กระดูกไหปลาร้าซ้ายเเละขาข้างขวาของเธอหัก นอกจากนั้นยังมีเเผลที่บริเวณศีรษะเเละหาง

ลิงเเสมเป็นสายพันธุ์ที่พบได้มากที่สุดในประเทศไทย พวกมันถูกพบเห็นได้ทุกที่ไม่ว่าจะเป็นบริเวณป่า สวนสาธารณะ สถานที่ท่องเที่ยว หรือวัด สิ่งนี้สะท้อนให้เห็นว่ามนุษย์ได้บุกรุกถิ่นที่อยู่อาศัยตามธรรมชาติของลิงเเสมโดยการตัดไม้ทำลายป่า แปลงป่าเป็นที่ดินเพื่อทำเกษตรหรือที่อยู่อาศัย ทำให้ลิงเหล่านี้ไม่มีทางเลือกต้องอาศัยอยู่กับมนุษย์จึงทำให้เกิดการเเย่งชิงอาหาร ทรัพย์สิน

จนในที่สุดเกิดอุบัติเหตุไม่ว่าจะถูกรถชนระหว่างข้ามถนนหรือโดนไฟช็อตระหว่างปีนอยู่บนเสาไฟฟ้า ถือเป็นข้อพิพาทระหว่างคนและลิงที่จะต้องเร่งแก้ไขโดยเร่งด่วน

ขณะนี้ซูซานได้รับการเข้าเฝือก ทำเเผล เเละปล่อยให้พักผ่อน เธอจะได้รับการดูเเลเอาใจใส่จากทีมจนกว่าสุขภาพจะกลับมาแข็งแรงเเละสามารถปล่อยคืนสู่ธรรมชาติได้
