Rescued – Slow Lorises – Tang-Thai, Thanarat and Robert

This week we rescued 3 slow lorises (Nycticebus.). Tang-Thai, Thanarat, and Robert.

“Tang-Thai” a female slow loris was bought with the hope of using her as a breeding female to produce young that would be sold in the illegal pet trade. Luckily, a concerned local purchased her and contacted WFFT to find a more suitable home for her. The WFFT Vet Team did an initial health check, and it seems like she is in good health considering her past. All her teeth are still intact. Tang-Thai is quite tame, so we assume that she must have been kept in captivity for a while prior to rescue. WFFT DOES NOT condone the ‘buying to rescue’ method; buying wildlife in whatever circumstances perpetuates the trade.

The Bengal slow loris is protected under Thai law and listed on IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Vulnerable (VU). They are illegal to buy and sell, but are readily available for sale on social media. The slow loris is the only venomous primate and is a dangerous animal to keep as a pet. The poison is hidden under their elbow, mixed with saliva it becomes venom that can be fatal to a humans. That is why most traders will remove or clip their teeth to prevent from them from causing injuries from biting.

“Thanart and Robert“ two wild slow Lorises, that where electrocuted after climbing on exposed power lines. Luckily, good citizens found them and contacted WFFT for help. Back at the WFFT Wildlife Hospital, our Vet Team did a physical examination and found burn wounds around both of their bodies. Robert has severe injuries on his left leg, and his eyes started to develop crowded optic. We may have to amputate one of his hands. Thanart is in better shape and is recovering well.

Currently, all three lorises are being cared for and recovering in WFFT’s Wildlife Hospital. We are hopeful they will all recover. We want to say thank you to the good citizens for doing a good deed and helping save these little primates.

สัปดาห์นี้มูลนิธิเพื่อสัตว์ป่าได้รับนางอาย 3 ตัวที่กำลังหาพักพิงเเห่งใหม่ “เเตงไทย ธนะรัชต์ เเละ โรเบิร์ต ” เรามาทำความรู้จักพวกเขากันเลยครับ

“เเตงไทย” นางอายเพศเมีย ถูกซื้อมาเป็นแม่พันธุ์ เพื่อเพาะขายบนอินเทอร์เน็ต ต่อมามีพลเมืองดีมาพบเข้าจึงขอซื้อเเละติดต่อมายังมูลนิธิฯ เบื้องต้นทีมสัตวเเพทย์ได้ตรวจสุขภาพพบว่า เเตงไทยมีสุขภาพที่เเข็งเเรง ฟันของเธอยังอยู่ครบทุกซี่ เเละค่อนข้างเชื่อง เราจึงสันนิษฐานว่าเธอถูกเลี้ยงเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงมานานแล้ว

ลิงลมหรือนางอายนั้นอยู่ในบัญชีสัตว์ป่าคุ้มครองตามพระราชบัญญัติสงวนและคุ้มครองสัตว์ป่า ปี 2535 ห้ามมีไว้ในครอบครองทั้งการเลี้ยงและจำหน่าย ผู้ที่ฝ่าฝืนมีโทษสูงสุดคือจำคุก 4 ปี ปรับ 40,000 บาท หรือทั้งจำทั้งปรับ แต่หาซื้อได้ง่ายมากทั่วประเทศ! ตามโซเชียลมีเดียราคาเริ่มต้นตั้งแต่ 1000 บาทเป็นต้นไป นอกจากจะผิดกฎหมายเเล้วยังเป็นอันตรายอีกด้วย นางอายเป็นหนึ่งในสัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมที่มีพิษ พิษของนางอายนั้นจะซ่อนอยู่ใต้ข้อศอกเมื่อผสมกับน้ำลายเมื่อโดนกัดอาจจะถึงขั้นเสียชีวิตได้ พ่อค้าเเม่ค้าส่วนใหญ่จึงถอนฟันของนางอายออกเพื่อป้องกันไม่ให้ถูกกัด

“ธนะรัชต์ “เเละ “โรเบิร์ต “ นางอายป่าถูกไฟช็อตเนื่องจากปีนอยู่บนเสาไฟฟ้า โชคดีที่พลเมืองดีมาพบเข้าจึงได้ติดต่อมูลนิธิฯ เพื่อรับการรักษา หลังจากที่กลับมาถึงโรงพยาบาลสัตว์ป่า ทีมสัตวเเพทย์ได้ตตรวจร่างกายพบว่า ธนะรัชต์ มีเเผลไหม้บริเวณมือเเละเท้าข้างซ้าย ส่วนโรเบิร์ตมีเเผลไหม้ตามบริเวณร่างกายโดยเฉพาะขาข้างซ้ายที่ไม่มีการตอบสนองต่อการกระตุ้น นอกจากนั้นยังพบว่าตาทั้ง2ข้างมีอาการขุ่นผิดปกติ เบื้องต้นทีมสัตวเเพทย์ได้ทำเเผล ฉีดยาปฏิชีวนะเพื่อฆ่าเชื้อ เเละหยอดตาให้ โรเบิร์ต เพื่อให้เเน่ใจว่าอาการจะไม่ลุกลาม

ขณะนี้สมาชิกใหม่ของเราได้รับการดูเเลอย่างใกล้ชิดเเละฟื้นตัวอยู่ในโรงพยาบาลสัตว์ป่าเเละเราหวังว่าพวกเขาจะมีอาการดีขึ้นเเละเราต้องขอขอบคุณทางพลเมืองดีที่มีน้ำใจช่วยเหลือนางอายทั้ง2ตัวนะครับ
