Rescued – ‘Jaiboon’ A Juvenile Long-tailed Macaque

A few days ago a family brought juvenile long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) named “Jaiboon” to WFFT so we could help with her rehabilitation. They told us a car hit her 2 weeks ago; they brought her to a local animal hospital in Phetchaburi.

The vet diagnosed she has brain damage due to a severe trauma to her head. That explained why she has such unusual behaviour, she always looks to the left and seems to have limited vision similar to ‘Baibua‘ the infant female Northern pig-tailed macaque who arrived at our centre two weeks ago. The long-tailed macaque is the most common species of primate in Thailand. They are ubiquitous, whether in the forests, parks, tourist sites or temples. It reflects how humans are invading and disturbing their natural habitat. These monkeys are left with no choice but to co-exist with humans, which can lead to them to stealing food and raiding properties. Conflict between wildlife and humans in Thailand is a common problem, especially with macaques.

Baiboon will stay at the WFFT Wildlife Hospital under close observation until she is recovered, we hope that she will be able to return to the wild. We will keep you posted.

ครอบครัวได้นำลูกลิงเเสม (Long-tailed macaque) ชื่อ “ใจบุญ” ส่งมอบให้มูลนิธิฯดูเเลต่อ พวกเขาบอกกับเราว่าเธอถูกรถชนเมื่อ 2 อาทิตย์ก่อนเเละได้นำเธอไปรักษาที่โรงพยาบาลสัตว์ในตัวเมืองเพรชบุรี สัตวเเพทย์ที่นั้นได้วินิจฉัยว่าเธอถูกรถชนบริเวณศรีษะอย่างเเรง ทำให้มีอาการกระทบกระเทือนทางสมองตอบสนองช้ากว่าปกติ พวกเขาจึงตัดสินใจนำเธอมาให้ทางมูลนิธฯเพื่อฟื้นฟูอาการของเธอก่อนที่จะนำไปปล่อย

ลิงเเสมเป็นสายพันธุ์ที่พบได้มากที่สุดในประเทศไทย พวกมันถูกพบเห็นได้ทุกที่ไม่ว่าจะเป็นบริเวณป่า สวนสาธารณะ สถานที่ท่องเที่ยว หรือวัด สิ่งนี้สะท้อนให้เห็นว่ามนุษย์ได้บุกรุกถิ่นที่อยู่อาศัยตามธรรมชาติของลิงเเสมโดยการตัดไม้ทำลายป่า แปลงป่าเป็นที่ดินเพื่อทำเกษตรหรือที่อยู่อาศัย ทำให้ลิงเหล่านี้ไม่มีทางเลือกต้องอาศัยอยู่กับมนุษย์จึงทำให้เกิดการเเย่งชิงอาหารหรือทรัพย์สิน ถือเป็นข้อพิพาทระหว่างคนและลิงที่จะต้องเร่งแก้ไขโดยเร่งด่วน

ขณะนี้ใจบุญกำลังได้รับการดูเเลอย่างใกล้ชิดเเละฟื้นตัวอยู่ในโรงพยาบาลสัตว์ป่า WFFT เราหวังว่าเธอจะมีอาการที่ดีขึ้นเเละสามารถปล่อยกลับเข้าป่าได้ในไม่ช้า มาติดตามกันต่อไปนะครับ
