RESCUED – 2 Orphans Arrive in 1 Day – Part 2 – Tulip

เมื่อวันศุกร์ที่ผ่านมามูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าได้ช่วยเหลือลูกสัตว์ป่ากำพร้า คือ ทิวลิป ลิงลมเหนือ ชาวบ้านเจอทิวลิปอยู่ในไร่ซึ่งห่างจาก มูลนิธิฯ ประมาณ 10 กิโลเมตร โดย 2 วันก่อนหน้านี้ ชาวบ้านพยายามพาน้องไปวางไว้บนต้นไม้บริเวณที่เจอทิวลิป ด้วยความหวังว่าแม่ของทิวลิปจะมารับกลับ แต่แม่ก็ไม่มา ชาวบ้านจึงตัดสินใจโทรมาขอความช่วยเหลือจากเรา น้องทิวลิปอายุประมาณ 2 เดือน ตามธรรมชาติน้องจะยังใช้ชีวิตอยู่กับแม่ ร่างกายของทิวลิปอ่อนแอมากทีเดียว เนื่องจากทิวลิปไม่ยอมกินอะไรเลยในช่วง 2 วันดังกล่าว ตอนนี้ทิวลิปอยู่ในเครื่องอบทารก และถูกป้อนอาหารทุก ๆ 2 ชั่วโมง

ลิงลม หรือ นางอาย เป็นสัตว์ตระกูลไพรเมตที่อยู่ในลำดับย่อย โพรซิเมียน ตามธรรมชาติเมื่อมีลูก แม่ลิงลมจะทิ้งลูกไว้ในรังแล้วออกไปหาอาหาร บางครั้งทำให้ลูกอ่อนแอ เปราะบางและตกเป็นเป้าของสัตว์นักล่าตัวอื่นรวมถึงแมวด้วย เรามักจะพบลูกลิงลมพลัดหลงบ่อยในช่วงฤดูให้กำเนิดเช่นนี้

ลิงลมเหนือ ในปัจจุบันถูกจัดให้เป็นสัตว์ป่าที่มีแนวโน้มใกล้สูญพันธุ์ ตามบัญชีแดงของสหพันธ์นานาชาติเพื่อการอนุรักษ์ธรรมชาติ การคุกคามลิงลมที่พบมากที่สุดคือ การค้าสัตว์ป่าเพื่อนำไปเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยง หรือขายให้กับสวนสัตว์และสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวทั่วทั้งภูมิภาคเอเชีย การล่าเพื่อทำยาแผนโบราณ การล่ามีความรุนแรงที่สุดเมื่อสัตว์อยู่ใกล้กับเขตเมืองที่มีประชากรหนาแน่น และการคุกคามถิ่นที่อยู่อาศัยเพื่อการเกษตรหรือแหล่งที่อยู่อาศัยของมนุษย์

On Friday we welcomed two very young infant primates. Secondly we will introduce you to Tulip. Tulip is a Bengal slow loris. She was found in a garden around 10km from the WFFT Wildlife Rescue Centre. The person that found her had spent 2 days trying to reunite her mother by placing in a tree close to where she was found. Sadly the mother did not return so we were called to help. We estimate that Tulip is around 2 months old and would still be very dependent on the care of her mother.

Mother lorises, as with many other Prosimian primates, park their infants when they go out and search for food, leaving them susceptible to predators including domestic cats. We often see an increase in young lorises being found during this time as it is birthing season.

Tulip is very weak having not eaten for 2 days. She is currently in an incubator and being fed ever 2 hours. We are unsure if she will make it but we will give her the best chance.

The Bengal slow loris is listed as Vulnerable (VU) by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The most severe threats facing the species are the wildlife trade, trapping for exotic pets and use in traditional medicine, and habitat loss. Hunting has been found to be most severe when near to heavily populated urban areas. The species is commonly sold as a pet and to zoos throughout Southeast Asia. Severe degradation and loss of suitable habitat is occurring at an alarming rate throughout its range.
