RESCUE NEWS – เรื่องราวของ “บุญรอด”

มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า มีความยินดีที่ได้ให้ความช่วยเหลือสัตว์อีกหนึ่งประเภทในสัปดาห์นี้ เป็นลิงกังเหนือที่ยังไม่โตเต็มที่นัก ชาวบ้านในพื้นที่อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดชุมพร ได้ให้ความช่วยเหลือ โดยพบเค้าในสภาพที่ถูกมัดแขนขวา จึงได้ช่วยนำส่งให้มูลนิธิฯ แต่ที่น่าประหลาดใจคือ ลิงกังตัวนี้ มีนิสัยที่เชื่องอย่างมาก ชัดเจนว่าน่าจะเคยเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงมาก่อน และเราเชื่อว่าเค้าน่าจะหลบหนี หรือเป็นลิงเก็บมะพร้าวที่ปลดระวางแล้ว โดยชาวบ้านที่ช่วยเหลือได้ตั้งชื่อให้เค้าว่า “บุญรอด”

หลังจากที่ได้รับการตรวจร่างกายเบื้องต้นแล้ว พบว่ามีการบาดเจ็บที่แขนบริเวณที่ถูกมัด และติดเชื้ออย่างรุนแรง ทีมสัตว์แพทย์ของมูลนิธิฯ จึงจำเป็นต้องตัดแขนออกเพื่อทำการรักษา หลังได้รับการผ่าตัดเค้าก็มีอาการดีขึ้น ตอบสนองการรักษาได้อย่างน่าประหลาดใจ เราหวังว่า “บุญรอด” จะสามารถฟื้นฟูร่างกาย และกลับมามีชีวิตชีวาอีกครั้ง เป็นหนึ่งในสมาชิกของฝูงลิง ภายในมูลนิธิฯต่อไป และแน่นอนว่าเราจะมาบอกเล่าเรื่องราวของ “บุญรอด” ให้ติดตามกันต่อไป

สัตว์ชนิดนี้ถูกล่า และซื้อขายเพื่อเป็นอาหาร กีฬา และนำไปปรุงยาตามตำราพื้นบ้าน และมักถูกจับมาเลี้ยง หรือเลี้ยงเพื่อให้ทำงานต่างๆ ในประเทศไทยลิงตัวผู้มักถูกฝึกให้เก็บมะพร้าว และลิงที่ถูกฝึกมาอย่างดี จะมีมูลค่าถึง 1,000 เหรียญสหรัฐ นอกจากนี้ ยังเป็นที่ต้องการของสวนสัตว์ และสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวอื่นๆ เพื่อการแสดงแบบผิดธรรมชาติของลิง

RESCUE NEWS – Boon Lott

WFFT welcomed another primate in need of help this week. This sub-adult Northern pig-tailed macaque was found with a rope or vine caught around his right arm. The local people who found him in Chumpon district brought him to WFFT. Mysteriously he is very tame, clearly an ex-captive, we assume that he is an escaped or unwanted coconut-picking monkey. The people that found him named him Boon Lott.

After the initial health check we found that the injury was badly infected so the WFFT Vet Team amputated his arm. It is now a few days since surgery and he is doing well. The resilience of macaques continues to amaze us all. We hope he will make a full recovery and be able to live with one of WFFT’s macaque troops. We will keep you posted on his progress.

This species is hunted and traded for food, sport and traditional “medicine”, and as live animals as pets or work animals. In Thailand, the males are exploited for picking coconuts. Sometimes, a well-trained macaque is sold for 1,000USD. They are also in demand by zoo’s and other tourist attractions for inhumane circus style shows.
