Majestic MaMi is on the Move

มะมี่ผู้เกรียงไกรได้บ้านหลังใหม่แล้ว

อาสาสมัครของเรา และผู้ที่เคยเข้ามาสนับสนุนช่วยเหลือเรา คงจะจำ “มะมี่” กันได้ ซึงเป็นชะนีดำใหญ่พันธุ์เซียมัง เพียงตัวเดียวของเรา ชะนีสายพันธุ์นี้จะมีขนาดใหญ่ และส่งเสียงดังกว่าชะนีสายพันธุ์อื่นๆ “มะมี่” เป็นหนึ่งในสมาชิกสัตว์ป่าที่อยู่ในความดูแลของเรามายาวนาน เธอได้รับความช่วยเหลือไว้ตั้งแต่ปี 2548 หลังจากเธอได้ถูกเลี้ยงในห้องเช่าอพาทเม้นท์ ที่กรุงเทพมหานคร แม่ของ “มะมี่” ถูกล่าในป่าของประเทศมาเลเซีย ส่วน “มะมี่” ถูกจับไว้ได้ แล้วลักลอบเข้าประเทศไทยอย่างผิดกฎหมาย

ในที่สุด เมื่อวานนี้เป็นช่วงเวลาที่น่าภาคภูมิใจของพวกเราชาวมูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า “มะมี่” ได้ถูกย้ายไปสู่บ้านหลังใหม่ กว้างขวางใหญ่โตกว่าเดิมมาก เป็นอาณาเขตที่เปิดโล่ง ล้อมรอบด้วยต้นไม้ขนาดใหญ่มากมาย เรียกได้ว่า วิว 360 องศาเลยทีเดียว

เรายังแอบมีความหวังว่า เราจะมีโอกาสได้ชะนีพันธุ์เซียมังเพศผู้ มาอยู่เป็นเพื่อนกับ “มะมี่” ต่อไป แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม ขณะนี้ “มะมี่” ได้บ้านใหม่ที่ดีที่สุดเท่าที่เราจะมอบให้ได้แล้ว แถมด้วยแพะอีกสองตัวให้อยู่เป็นเพื่อนกันไปก่อน

Many of our volunteers and supporters will know of MaMi, WFFT’s only Siamang gibbon. The siamang is the largest and loudest of all the gibbons. MaMi is one of WFFT’s long-term residents; she was rescued in 2005 after being kept as a pet for a few years in an apartment in Bangkok. Her mother had been poached from the wild and she was illegally smuggled into Thailand from Malaysia.

Yesterday was a huge day for us all at WFFT. MaMi moved to a large open top habitat, with huge trees and a 360-degree view of her surroundings. We had hoped over the years to rescue a male siamang so she would not live alone. For now he has the best captive habitat we can provide and a pair of goats to make friends with.
