เมื่อวานนี้ทีมอาสาสมัครของเราได้ทำความสะอาดบ่อน้ำที่ดับคลายความร้อนสุดโปรดของเจ้าบุญดีช้างตัวเมียอายุ 30 ปี ที่มาอยู่กับเราได้เกือบปีเเล้ว

จอกแหนเป็นพืชลอยน้ำชนิดหนึ่งที่ช่วยดับความร้อนได้เป็นอย่างดีเเละยังเป็นเเหล่งที่พัก หลบภัยให้ทั้งนกเเละปลา เเต่ด้วยความที่มันเเพร่กระจายได้อย่างรวดเร็วเราจึงต้องกำจัดมัน

It has been a very hot dry season in Thailand. Our elephant volunteer team has been cooling off clearing aquatic plants in Boon Dee’s lake.

Water lettuce is a free-floating aquatic plant that helps cool the elephant pools and also creates a nice habitat for wild fishes and birds. However, it can spread very quickly, so we have to manage its growth. Interestingly some of our rescued elephants do not like to swim when their lakes are covered in these small plants.
