Elephant, Alicia: from chains and rides, to friendship and freedom.

Alicia has been with us here at WFFT for four years. ภาษาไทยด้านล่าง

Before arriving, Alicia was forced to work in a trekking camp for about six years giving rides to tourists, and prior to this, she was used as a logging elephant. She is now 58 years old. For most of her long life, she has suffered at the hands of man, working long days, being controlled by fear and intimidation.

When she arrived at WFFT, she was in very bad shape with many injuries. With intensive care from our vet team, her condition improved daily and now after putting on some weight recently, she is looking extra beautiful. 

Alicia lives a happy life of retirement together with her best friend, Malai Ngun, and seven more elephant ladies sharing similar stories. She can wander around in a very big open space, breathe fresh air, bathe whenever she wants in one of the many lakes, and live close to nature, the way an elephant should.

อลิเซีย จากวันนั้นที่ชีวิตคือโซ่ล่ามและรับแขกขี่ช้าง….จนถึงวันนี้ที่ชีวิตคือ มิตรภาพและอิสรภาพ

อลิเซียได้รับการช่วยเหลือและมาอยู่กับเราเป็นเวลา4 ปีแล้วค่ะ ก่อนหน้านั้นอชิเซียทำงาน 6 ปีอยู่ที่แคมป์ช้างเพื่อพานักท่องเที่ยวขี่ช้าง และเมื่อย้อนไปก่อนหน้านั้นอีกอลิเซียทำงานเป็นช้างลากซุง ตอนนี้อลิเซียอายุ 58 ปีค่ะ นั่นหมายความว่าเกือบจะทั้งชีวิต อลิเชียต้องทนทรมาน ถูกบังคับ รับคำสั่ง และอยู่ในความควบคุมของมนุษย์คนแล้วคนเล่า ใช้ชีวิตอยู่กับความกลัวและการบังคับขู่เข็ญ ตอนที่เพิ่งมาถึงมูลนิธิฯอลิเซียค่อนข้างผ่ายผอมและร่างกายเต็มไปด้วยบาดแผล ทีมสัตว์แพทย์จึงต้องดูแลเป็นพิเศษ จากการดูแลเอาใจใส่นั้นทำให้สุขภาพและร่างกายของ อลิเซียดีขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ จนตอนนี้อลิเซียคือช้างตัวใหญ่ที่สวยสง่างาม 

อลิเซียในวันนี้ใช้ชีวิตในวัยเกษียณอย่างมีความสุขไปพร้อม ๆ กับมาลัยเงินเพื่อนสนิท และเพื่อนสาวอีก 7 เชือก ซึ่งทุกเชือกต่างมีเรื่องราวชีวิตคล้าย ๆ กัน 

อลิเซียและเพื่อน ๆ ในวันนี้และวันต่อ ๆ ไป ทุกวันคือวันพักผ่อน เดินเล่นรอบ ๆ สูดอากาศบริสุทธิ์พื้นในที่โล่งกว้างใหญ่ มีทั้งต้นไม้ใหญ่ หญ้าเขียวขจี สระน้ำไว้ลงเล่นทุกเมื่อที่ต้องการ ใช้ชีวิตใกล้เคียงกับธรรมชาติมากที่สุด และเป็นชีวิตที่ช้างทุกเชือกควรได้รับ
