Beautiful Nam Fon has passed away

We are incredibly sad to share the news that our beautiful elephant, Nam Fon, has passed away.

Nam Fon spent almost 10 years at the WFFT elephant sanctuary, living with her best friends See Puak and Duenphen, in a large forested enclosure.

Nam Fon endured many decades of abuse in the logging and trekking industries before being rescued in 2013. She suffered from numerous health conditions at the time of her arrival to WFFT, as a result of her cruel exploitation. Although her health drastically improved, and she spent many healthy years at WFFT, last week her health suddenly deteriorated from old age. She sadly passed away a few days ago, despite the best efforts of our dedicated vet team.

At around 65 years old, Nam Fon lived a long life, and got to spend 10 years surrounded by love and friendship. We are grateful to our supporters and sponsors who enabled us to provide Nam Fon with the care she so deserved. We held a Buddhist ceremony to help her to pass to the next life.

Rest in peace, beautiful girl. You will be sorely missed.

เราเสียใจเป็นอย่างยิ่งที่ต้องแจ้งข่าวเศร้าว่า ช้างที่แสนดีของเรา “น้ำฝน” ได้จากเราไปอยู่บนดาวช้างแล้ว

น้ำฝนได้ใช้เวลาเกือบ 10 ปี ที่อยู่กับมูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า กับเพื่อนซี้ สีเผือกและเดือนเพ็ญ ในคอกสนามป่าขนาดใหญ่

น้ำฝนได้ผ่านชีวิตอย่างลำบากมาหลายปีในอุตสาหกรรมการลากไม้และการท่องเที่ยวนั่งหลังช้าง ก่อนที่จะได้รับการช่วยเหลือจากมูลนิธิมาในปี 2556 ซึ่งส่งผลกระทบทำให้น้ำฝนมีปัญหาสุขภาพตามมามากมาย และมูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าก็ได้ดูแลน้ำฝนเป็นอย่างดี จนทำให้สุขภาพของน้ำฝนดีขึ้น แข็งแรงขึ้น และได้ใช้เวลาอย่างมีความสุขกับเพื่อนๆมาจวบจนถึงเมื่อสัปดาห์ที่แล้ว สุขภาพของน้ำก็ได้ทรุดโทรมลงอย่างกระทันหันเนื่องจากวัยชรา และน้ำฝนก็จากเราไปอย่างน่าเศร้าเมื่อไม่กี่วันก่อน แม้ว่าทีมสัตวแพทย์ของเราจะพยายามอย่างเต็มที่แล้วก็ตาม

พูดถึงอายุ 65 ปีนั้น ถือว่าน้ำฝนมีชีวิตที่ยืนยาวและยังได้ใช้เวลาอย่างมีความสุขถึง 10 ปีท่ามกลางความรักและเพื่อนรอบๆ เราขอขอบคุณผู้บริจาคและผู้สนับสนุนของเราที่ทำให้เราได้ดูแลน้ำฝนอย่างที่น้ำฝนสมควรได้รับ เราได้จัดพิธีกรรมทางศาสนาช่วยให้น้ำฝนไปสู่ไปสู่ดินแดนแสนสุขในภายภาคหน้า
