INVITATION

The Sabah Wildlife Department is pleased to host the 5th WARN Conference in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia from 26th to 30th November, 2013.

We hereby extend our warm invitation to you to participate in this conference, which aims to further strengthen our ties within the network, and share our experiences and knowledge in wildlife rescue and conservation, animal welfare and enforcement issues.

Great news !
WARN will attain full-fledged NGO status by 15th August 2013. Therefore, the first ever interim board meeting as a legal entity will be held during this upcoming conference at Kota Kinabalu.

Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

REGISTRATION

To register for WARN2013, please fill out the registration form and return it via email before 15th September, 2013 to the Secretariat at : warn2013.sabah@gmail.com

The registration fee is US$250, or RM800, which is inclusive of:

a. Two-and a half days’ attendance at the conference
b. Accommodation for three (3) nights at the resort (25th, 26th, 27th November)
c. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, and coffee-breaks on conference days
d. Post-conference tours (Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan) inclusive of transport, lodging and meals, from 28th morning to 30th morning.

We regret to advise that the registration fee is fixed, and no discounts or refunds are allowed for shorter stays or for opting out of the programme.

PAYMENT METHOD

Advance payment, please pay to : 

Please indicate “WARN2013 Fees” for the payment. Bank charges are to be paid by the participant. Kindly inform the Secretariat via EMAIL once the payment has been made, attaching proof of payment.

For Payment on Arrival
International participants are to pay the fee of USD250 in US dollars. Please have this in exact amount ready.
Malaysian participants can pay the fee of RM800 in Ringgit Malaysia. Please have this in exact amount ready.
Official receipts will be issued by the WARN2013 committee.

POST CONFERENCE TOURS

After the conference, participants will visit:
1. Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort Nature Reserve, Kota Kinabalu
2. Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, Sandakan
3. Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, Sandakan
4. Rainforest Discovery Centre, Sandakan

Transport, lodging and meals are included during duration of the tour (28th morning to 30th morning). Please indicate if you are joining this tour by ticking the relevant box on the Registration Form.

PRESENTATIONS AND ABSTRACTS

The organisers invite WARN members for presentations, with a focus on dealing with challenges and issues in wildlife rescue in the region. The WARN2013 Advisory Committee will review, select and confirm the final list of speakers for the conference. Selected speakers will be notified by 31st August, 2013. Please do not just present your achievements and projects to advertise your work, but try to show your challenges faced and lessons learned for others to learn from. Oral presentations are planned for 15 minutes + 5 minutes for questions and discussions. Abstracts are to be submitted by 15th August, 2013 to warn2013.sabah@gmail.com

Format and layout instructions:
i. Abstracts should be in English, around 500 words (including title, author, affiliation)
ii. Font 12 points, Times New Roman, single spaced
iii. Title in bold and capital letters above author’s name, affiliation, email address
iv. Please do not include figures, tables and special mathematical symbols

EXHIBITION SPACE

There will be a space outside the ballroom that is reserved for exhibition for members to showcase their organisation’s activities and achievements. Space is provided free-of-charge however all exhibition materials are to be provided and set-up by the members themselves. Availability will be on a first-come first-served basis. Please inform us via email if you wish to put up an exhibit or a booth.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

Participants are advised to arrive in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah by 25th November, 2013 (Monday). Check-in time at the venue is at 2:00pm. There will be a meeting of the WARN Interim Board on the 25th November, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the venue, followed by an ice-breaking and networking session and dinner in the evening. Malaysia provides visa-free stays for most countries, for up to 90 days. Please check what is applicable for you, if you need any assistance or an invitation letter please contact the secretariat in advance. There are direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu , as well as from some other regional cities. Please check the websites of Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia and Malindo Air for some flight options.
