Rescued : Juvenile Brahminy Kite & Yellow-headed temple turtle

This week the WFFT Rescue Centre welcomed two new patients. A juvenile brahminy kite (Haliastur Indus) named “Kitey” and yellow-headed temple turtle (Heosemys Annandale) named “Rocky”.

Kitey was purchased and locked away in a tiny cage as an exotic pet since it was little. The owner contacted WFFT to find a more suitable home for his pet when he decided he didn’t want to keep Kitey any longer.

After an initial health check, Kitey seems in good health condition, but sadly it couldn’t fly. This might be a result of keeping the bird in a small cage for a long time or Kitey is in the process of shedding and regrowing feathers.

Rocky was found severely shell cracked and bleeding on the side of a busy road in Phetchaburi after being hit by a car. Luckily a concerned local found it and brought Rocky to the Wildlife Hospital for emergency treatment. It has been a dry season in Thailand, we assumed Rocky might be migrated from its habitat to find food due to the severe drought.

WFFT would like to say thank you to a kind citizen who rescued Rocky and brought the turtle to the Wildlife Hospital.

Both of our patients are currently receiving the best care from the Vet Team. We will keep you posted about their condition.

สัปดาห์นี้มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าได้ช่วยเหลือเเละต้อนรับสมาชิกถาวรเเละชั่วคราวได้เเก่ “ไค้” เหยี่ยวเเดง (Brahminy Kite) เเละ “ร็อคกี้”เต่าบัว(Yellow-headed temple turtle) ไปทำความรู้จักพวกเขากันเลย

“ไค้” เหยี่ยวเเดง ถูกซื้อมาเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงตั้งเเต่เล็กเเละถูกขังอยู่ในกรงเเคบๆตั้งเเต่นั้นมา จนเจ้าของตัดสินใจว่าเขาไม่อยากเลี้ยงไค้อีกต่อไปจึงติดต่อมายังมูลนิธิฯเพื่อหาบ้านหลังใหม่ให้กับสัตว์เลี้ยงของเขา

หลังจากตรวจสุขภาพเบื้องต้นพบว่าไค้มีสุขภาพที่เเข็งเเรงเเต่ไม่สามารถบินได้ สาเหตุน่าจะมาจากผลของการเลี้ยงในกรงเเคบๆมานาน

ส่วน “ร็อคกี้”เต่าบัว มีพลเมืองดีนำมารักษาที่โรงพยาบาลสัตว์ป่า พลเมืองดีได้บอกกับเราว่าพบร็อคกี้โดนรถชนอยู่บนถนน เราคาดว่าร็อคกี้ น่าจะออกมาหาอาหารหรือกำลังอพยพเนื่องจากช่วงนี้ประเทศไทยกำลังอยู่ในสภาพอากาศแห้งแล้ง

ทางมูลนิธิฯต้องขอขอบคุณพลเมืองดีที่นำร็อคกี้มาส่งถึงโรงพยาบาล ขณะนี้เขาทั้งสองกำลังได้รับการดูแลรักษาอย่างดีที่สุดจากทีมสัตวเเพทย์ มาให้กำลังใจกันต่อไปนะครับ
