Rescued: Many Animals in Need This Week

Last week the WFFT Rescue Centre welcomed four new patients. A Juvenile collared scops owl (Otus lettia), an Asian openbill stork (Anastomus oscitans), a green iguana (Iguana iguana), and an Indian peahen (Pavo cristatus).

A kind person brought Tony, the collared scops owl, to the Wildlife Hospital after finding him on the side of the road. After the initial examination, Tony was in lethargic condition, and could not stand on his own. He is eating well and showing improvements. Hopefully, Tony will recover and be able to return home in the coming weeks.

George, the Asian openbill stork, was looking for fish in a field. All of a sudden he got tangled up in a fisherman’s net. A brave boy found him and brought George to WFFT. He had multiple wounds, we assumed it must be from trying to escape from the net. After 3 days, his condition had improved significantly. We decided to release him back to the wild. He flew away into the sky.

Sri Mork the green iguana and the Indian peafowl were found by locals, we assumed they are unwanted pets who were either released or escaped, both species are not native to Thailand. Iguanas are undoubtedly one of the most popular exotic pets in Thailand due to the low price. They are enormous and can grow up to 2 meters long with a 10-15 Years lifespan. Iguanas are found as invasive species in many warm regions on earth, including Thailand.

Both the iguana and peahen will not be able to return back to the wild, but WFFT will provide them with the best care, a safe environment, and close to nature as possible.

สัปดาห์ที่เเล้วมูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าได้ช่วยเหลือเเละต้อนรับสมาชิกถาวรเเละชั่วคราวได้เเก่ นกฮูก นกปากห่าง อิกัวนา เเละ นกยูง ไปทำความรู้จักพวกเขากันเลย

โทนี่ นกฮูก (Collared scops owl) ถูกนำมาที่โรงพยาบาลสัตว์ป่าโดยพลเมืองดีหลังจากพบนอนอยู่ข้างถนน เมื่อตรวจร่างกายพบว่า มีอาการเหนื่อยล้า ไม่สามารถบินเเละยืนได้ด้วยตนเอง ขณะนี้กำลังอยู่ในช่วงพักฟื้น เเละจะถูกปล่อยคืนสู่ธรรมชาติเมื่อมีอาการที่ดีขึ้น

จอร์จ นกปากห่าง (Asian openbill) กำลังหาปลาอยู่ในบ่อน้ำเเต่จู่ๆก้เข้าไปติดกับตาข่ายจับปลาของชาวประมง! เเต่โชคยังเข้าข้างเมื่อมีเด็กเเถวนั้นมาพบเข้าเเละครอบครัวก็ได้นำมาส่งที่โรงพยาบาลสัตว์ป่า เมื่อตรวจร่างกายพบว่ามีเเผลตามตัวเราคิดว่าเเผลน่าจะมาจาก จอร์จพยายามดิ้นออกจากตาข่าย หลังจากพักฟื้นได้ 3 วัน จอร์จมีอาการดีขึ้นทีมสัตวเเพทย์จึงได้ปล่อยกลับสู่ธรรมชาติ ขอให้ปลอดภัยนะจอร์จ

สีหมอก อิกัวนา (Iguana) เเละ นกยูงอินเดีย (Indian peafowl) ถูกพบเจอโดยชาวบ้าน เราคาดว่าทั้งคู่น่าจะถูกปล่อยหรือหนีออกมา

อิกัวนาเป็นหนึ่งในสัตว์เเปลกที่ได้รับความนิยมมากในประเทศไทยเพราะมีราคาถูก เเต่สามารถโตเต็มวัยได้ถึง 2 เมตรเเละมีอายุประมาณ 10 – 15 ปีทำให้เจ้าของหลายๆคนเบื่อที่จะเลี้ยง จึงตัดสินใจปล่อยเเละกลายเป็นสัตว์ต่างถิ่น

สีหมอกเเละนกยูงไม่สามารถกลับคืนสู่ธรรมชาติได้เนื่องจากไม่ใช่สัตว์ท้องถิ่นของประเทศไทย มูลนิธิฯจึงจำเป็นต้องเตรียมที่อยู่สำหรับทั้งสองให้ได้มาตรฐานและมีสภาพแวดล้อมที่ใกล้เคียงกับธรรมชาติมากที่สุดเท่าที่จะทำได้
