ปล่อยตะพาบสวนกลับคืนสู่ธรรมชาติ

น้องตะพาบสวนตัวใหญ่นี้ถูกพบอยู่บนถนนในเมืองหัวหิน โชคดีและขอขอบพระคุณผู้ใจบุญที่หยุดรถและช่วยเก็บน้องมาที่มูลนิธิ

ตะพาบสวน ตะพาบธรรมดา หรือตะพาบไทย เป็นสัตว์น้ำคุ้มครองของไทย และเป็นตะพาบเพียงชนิดเดียวเท่านั้นที่อยู่ในสกุล Amyda ที่ยังคงดำรงเผ่าพันธุ์อยู่จนถึงปัจจุบัน จัดเป็นตะพาบไทยหายากตามแหล่งธรรมชาติ มีสถานะถูกคุกคาม เหมือนตะพาบชนิดอื่น ๆ ในแถบเอเชีย เนื่องจากการล่าเพื่อบริโภคตามแถบชนบท การล่าเพื่อค้าจัดส่งตามร้านอาหารป่า ตลาดค้าสัตว์ระหว่างประเทศ หรือตามแนวชายแดน โดยเฉพาะลูกค้าชาวจีนที่เชื่อว่าเป็นยาบำรุงร่างกาย การล่าเพื่อขโมยไข่หวังได้ลูกเต่ามาขายต่อเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยง

สำหรับตะพาบสวนตัวนี้หลังจากที่เราตรวจสุขภาพและช่วยดูแลน้องมา น้องก็พร้อมแล้ว ทางเราจึงตัดสินใจที่จะนำน้องไปปล่อยคืนสู่ธรรมชาติ ไปยังสถานที่ปลอดภัย ไม่มีการรบกวนจากมนุษย์ ขอให้เจ้ารักษาเนื้อ รักษาตัวให้ปลอดภัย และขอให้เราทั้งหลายช่วยกันดูแล ช่วยกันอนุรักษ์พวกเขา

A large Asian softshell turtle (Amyda cartilaginea) was recently found in a busy road close to the city of Hua Hin. Luckily a kind local stopped his car and removed him from the road. He was then brought to WFFT.

Like many turtles in Asia, this vulnerable species is intensely hunted for its meat. Large numbers are captured for local consumption by people living in rural areas, while regional networks of hunters and traders also work to supply restaurants and international markets. This turtle is also exploited for its eggs and for use in traditional medicines, and young turtles are taken for the pet trade.

After a few days under observation the decision was made to return him back to the wild, to an area where he will be safe, far away from humans. We hope he can stay clear of trouble.
