ข่าวสารชะนี – ย้ายชะนีกลับสู่เกาะฟื้นฟู

18 เดือนแห่งความแห้งแล้ง สุดท้ายก็ผ่านพ้นไปเสียที ฤดูฝนกลับมาให้มีพลังอีกครั้ง คราวนี้ทางมูลนิธิอยากจะแบ่งปันเรื่องราวของชะนี ชะนีของเราสามารถกลับคืนสู่เกาะฟื้นฟูชะนีได้แล้ว ปีที่แล้วฝนน้อย แต่กลับมีการเผาป่าให้เห็นอยู่บ่อยครั้ง และนั่นทำให้บริเวณเกาะที่ชะนีเคยอยู่นั้นแห้งแล้งตลอดทั้งปี ฤดูฝนปีนี้ สร้างความยินดีให้กับเราเป็นอย่างมาก เมื่อวานนี้ทางเราจึงเริ่มนำชะนี 2 คู่ ออกจากป่าฟื้นฟูชะนี กลับไปยังเกาะฟื้นฟูชะนี

การขาดแคลนพนักงานและอาสาสมัคร เงินบริจาคที่เหลือน้อย ทำให้การวางแผนคืนชะนีสู่เกาะ ดำเนินไปอย่างล่าช้า หากท่านมีความประสงค์อยากร่วมสนับสนุนงานของมูลนิธิเพื่อการซ่อมแซม ตกแต่งเกาะอื่น ๆ ซึ่งยังเหลืออีก 7 เกาะ ที่ต้องทำการปรับปรุงให้มีความพร้อม ก่อนที่เราจะนำชะนีไปปล่อยได้ ในกระบวนการนี้ทางเราจำเป็นต้องใช้ทุนในการซื้อโลหะสำหรับการสร้างหอคอย ถังสำหรับใช้เป็นกล่องนอน และเชือกเพื่อให้ชะนีได้ปืนป่าย

ที่มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า เรามีเกาะฟื้นฟูชะนีทั้งหมด 8 เกาะ บริเวณอ่างเก็บน้ำด้านหน้าศูนย์ช่วยเหลือสัตว์ และอีก 6 เกาะที่โครงการ 4 เกาะฟื้นฟูชะนีเหล่านี้สร้างขึ้นเพื่อการฟื้นฟูชะนีที่ทางมูลนิธิได้ช่วยเหลือมา ทำให้ชะนีอยู่ห่างจากการรบกวนของมนุษย์ อาหารของชะนีนั้นจะมีพนักงานดูแลสัตว์ภายเรือไปใกล้ ๆ เกาะ ใส่ไว้ในตะกร้าอาหารและดึงเชือกขึ้นไปบนยอดไม้ ดังนั้นแล้วชะนีเหล่านี้จะได้ฝึกใช้ชีวิตแบบที่ควรจะเป็นตามธรรมชาติอีกครั้งบนเกาะฟื้นฟู เมื่อวานนี้ทางมูลนิธิดีใจมากที่ได้เห็น นิล ไมโล ขวัญและนานา ห้อยโหน ส่งเสียงร้อง อย่างมีความสุขในบ้านหลังใหม่ของพวกเขา

After almost 18 months we have finally been able to return some of WFFT gibbon residents back to their island homes. We saw very little rain and devastating forest fires over the last year so it was a very welcome sight for us all when our dry lake filled up a few weeks ago. Yesterday we relocated two gibbon pairs from WFFT’s Gibbon Rehabilitation Forest back to the Gibbon Islands.

Being short staffed and with funds running low this operation is going to take longer than usual. We have 7 more islands to refurbish before we can release more gibbons. We need to purchase metal to restore climbing towers, barrels for the gibbons to sleep in and ropes for the gibbons to swing on.

At the WFFT Wildlife Rescue Centre we have 8 Gibbon Rehabilitation Islands in the large lake in front of the rescue centre and 6 islands at Project 4. These rehabilitation islands were created to aid with the rehabilitation of the gibbons rescued by WFFT, far from human interference. Their diet is supplemented daily by the WFFT Wildlife Staff who go out to the islands using a small boat. Thus, gibbons live as free as possible in a captive setting. Each week the WFFT Vet Team goes out to check the health of the gibbons. We are very happy to see Milo, Nin, Kwan and Nana enjoying their new spacious homes.
